Entry 6: Karl Lagerfeld's Ridiculous Generalizations

What I am about to say is no personal attack ON Karl, so if readers get a bit shitty this has been said. I'm just merely challenging his views, with a negative and sarcastic slant.

Anorexia and the Modeling Industry is always a fiery topic. Blah Blah Blah Repeat Repeat Repeat. Every season some thin model causes a ruckus causing tabloids to wet themselves at the prospect of a sellable headline. Karl being an open advocate for emaciated models has made some pretty hilarious statements in reference to those who disagree with the concept. Just to let you know I am on the fence where I admit I prefer seeing a smaller build but draw the line at girls dying in the name of fashion.

One in particular that I hate on is when Lagerfeld stated in an interview with Focus Magazine, "These are fat mummies sitting with their bags of crisps in front of the television, saying that thin models are ugly,". I would just like to highlight that embedded in this statement are some ignorant generalizations. According to the Bible of Karl, all those who don't agree with the use of size zero models are:

1) All women - Karl, men like meat whether it's to eat, touch, whatever. A large proportion of those who speak out against thin models have penises.

2) They are fat - Yes Karl, these people probably are fat according to your standards, but when you are surrounded people who look like victims of the holocaust, those big black glasses you wear also block out the rays of that thing called reality.

3) Mothers - where the hell did this one come from? Honestly. 'I don't agree with size zero models. Oh wow a baby just fell out of my uterus.' Perhaps size zero models are the leading cause of unplanned pregnancy.

4) They think the models are 'ugly' - Since when was disagreeing with the issue of anorexia in the fashion industry a personal attack on models themselves? Stop trying to make the sane people the villains here.

Another of Karl's pearls of wisdom is when he rebutted against criticisms regarding his view on the issue. He stated, "They aren't deliberately skinny because they want to be models, they've probably had family problems or suffered from other traumas," he then continued to say, "Ninety per cent of them are quite normal, properly proportioned girls with less fat and more muscles." Karl I can't keep up with all the knots you are tying in your argument here. First of all you say models are emotional fuck ups who are skinny victims of 'trauma', implying that there are issues surrounding eating. Then comes the juxtaposition where you say that these women/pre pubescent girls, are well proportioned and are normal. I'm afraid I have to disagree, muscular bodies with little fat, generally do not have bone protruding at every angle. Yeah just saying.

I feel a little torn within myself at the moment. I dislike Karl's disrespectful generalizations but I am also amused by his idiocy and naive view of the world.
